Do Better

Where do I Begin?

If you are concerned that your child has

depression, severe anxiety, symptoms of anger, poor impulse control

thoughts of suicide or has even attempted suicide ...

GET THEM ASSESSED BY A MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL. ASAP.

Do not wait for a crisis to occur to get them help. Be proactive.

The following steps could be life saving.

1- Make an appointment to see your pediatrician and let them know  about your concerns. They can help point you in the right direction, help with referrals and may even have a counselor or therapist in their office to help.

2- 988 is the new Mental health crisis number. Tell you teen and put it in a visible space. Tell your teen that if they are ever concerned suicide for themselves or others that they can call 988 or text 741741 to get help.

3- Reassure you teen that they have your FULL SUPPORT and that you WILL NOT BE ANGRY/UPSET if they call it themselves. Above all else you want your child to stay alive.

4-  Call the back of your insurance card and ask for 3 numbers of mental health specialists in your area that are covered by your insurance- a Counselor, Therapist, Psychologist, Psychiatrist MD/DO, or Psych NP.  Call those numbers. Get on the wait list. There will be a long wait list. Be in close contact with your pediatrician until you can get in to see the mental health care specialist.

[Don't know the difference between different mental health care professionals?  Please listen to my podcast episode- Connecting to Care.]

5- Sign up for my masterclass!  In this free masterclass I give you action oriented steps to help keep your child safe even before [or after] you call 988

If you already have an outpatient mental health professional caring for your child,

and feel it is not enough, sign up for my master class to learn HOW YOU can

further help support your child and their mental health.
