My Why
As a parent, who is raising 2 children, I have found that one of my own greatest fears is potentially one day facing my children in their own mental health crisis.

I would want real guidance and education from a doctor with experience who knows what to do and cares enough to tell me step by step how to help my child.

I would want that doctor to tell me specifically:

"How can I help my child?"
"How do I talk to my child without an explosion?"
"How do I know if they are unsafe?"
"What do I DO when they are unsafe?"

As a child and adolescent psychiatrist who has worked with thousands of youth in mental health crisis and their parents, I have been asked the above questions countless times. Often in my visits, there is just not enough time to provide the answers in a through, thoughtful and compassionate way.
My website and the education I provide here are my attempt to DoBetter at helping parents trying to reach and support their child in crisis.

As a pediatric specialist, I know that medical and mental health start with the pediatrician first. Clinic pediatricians across the country are bearing the brunt of the mental health crisis our youth are experiencing today. There are few places for them to refer to get help from specialists like myself. There are long waitlists and insurance hurdles that need to be faced when they finally find someone to accept their patient.

I want to DoBetter at providing encouragement and guidance to pediatricians and primary care physicians who are holding on and doing their very best to help their patients cope until they can get the specialized treatment that they need.

We are all a work in progress.

When parents make progress, so do their children.
When MD's make progress, so do our patients and their families.
